Supported formats

The browser canvas encoder supports common raster formats. JPEG and WebP quality controls are lossy. PNG export is generally lossless and may not become smaller when a quality slider is changed.

Does compression always reach a specific size?

No. The result depends on the source image, dimensions, format and encoder. For a maximum file-size target, use the dedicated Compress to Exact KB tool and check its reported result.

Frequently asked questions

Is the image compressor free?

PixelToolkit's browser-based image compressor is available without creating an account.

Are images uploaded to a server?

Core image processing is designed to run in your browser on your device. The static application does not upload selected images as part of the standard compression workflow.

Will compression reduce image quality?

JPEG and WebP compression can reduce visual quality. Review the output before publishing or submitting it.

Why did my PNG file not become smaller?

PNG uses lossless encoding, and the browser quality parameter does not provide the same size-versus-quality control as JPEG or WebP.
